SMART ForTwo Cabrio 2017

The 2017 Smart ForTwo Cabrio convertible will start at $19,650 when it goes on sale in the U.S. this fall, which includes a $750 destination charge—is for the base Pure Passion trim level with 5-speed manual transmission.

Selecting the optional 6-speed dual-clutch transmission bumps the price up to $20,640.

All ForTwo Cabrio models use the same 0.9-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder gasoline

engine, which sends 89 horsepower and 100 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels.

That model is rated at 36 mpg combined (34 mpg city, 39 mpg highway) with the dual-clutch transmission, and 35 mpg combined (32 mpg city, 39 mpg highway) with the manual.

This is a redesigned version of the Smart ForTwo Electric Drive, which is scheduled to debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.

It replaces the current Electric Drive, which is based on the previous-generation ForTwo platform that is no longer used by the gasoline models.

Like the current model, expect the next-generation Electric Drive to be offered as a coupe and convertible.
