Volkswagen eyes SMA Solar storage systems in cooperation talks
On Friday, Reuters reported Volkswagen is in early talks with German solar power equipment maker SMA Solar about working together, the companies said, as the automaker pushes ambitious electric car plans to overcome its diesel emissions scandal.
SMA Solar, which makes inverters designed for home storage systems, declined to comment on the specifics of the talks.
The company is already cooperating with carmakers Daimler and Tesla on storage technology.
Volkswagen plans to invest billions of euros in zero-emission vehicles and on-demand mobility services and aims to launch more than 30 electric cars models by 2025.
Regional German daily newspaper Hessische Niedersaechsische Allgemeine first reported on the cooperation talks on Thursday.
