Mahindra to Launch Two New Electric Vehicles This Year

Mahindra & Mahindra, with its all-electric sub-brand Reva, is the sole homegrown automaker in the Indian market which is focusing on zero emission vehicles. After it introduced Reva, the company introduced the second generation of the Reva-i which is now christened as the e2o. Last month, Mahindra also added the e-Verito in its zero-emission lineup. Now, a senior executive from the company has revealed that two new EVs (electric vehicles) will be launched by the end of 2016.
Mahindra-Reva’s senior general manager, Pawan Sachdeva stated at the 2nd National Workshop & Exhibition on FAME India that M&M sees a huge opportunity in the EV space. He further added that the all-electric car market is still in a nascent state in India and accounts for a very small share of automotive sales. In the last fiscal year (2015), only 753 pure electric vehicles were sold in India, in contrast to 1,76,627 units in China and 1,15,262 units in the USA, as per a media reports.
Since the market is in a formative stage and the sales numbers are remotely enticing, Mahindra wants to build its reputation as a zero-emissions carmaker before any competitor steps in. The upcoming two models will not only emphasise Mahindra’s seriousness towards EVs but will provide options to buyers.
