American Hybrid Car Goes on Sale in China

Buick LaCrosse Hybrid went on sale in China this week
General Motors will market hybrid-powered vehicles with partner SAIC Motor Corp. under the Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac brands.
SAIC General Motors Co. will introduce the Chevrolet Malibu XL hybrid, Buick LaCrosse hybrid and Cadillac CT6 plug-in hybrid in China this year.
The Malibu and LaCrosse will feature a 1.8-liter engine mated to a two-motor electric drive unit, which will be powered by a lithium ion battery.
The Cadillac CT6 will have a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine along with an electric drive unit. The Cadillac will be able to travel up to 80 km in electric-only mode, GM said.
According to GM, the CT6 will consume 1.7 liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers, which it claims is the best fuel economy of any luxury plug-in hybrid.
SAIC-GM plans to “fully localize” production of its battery packs in China by investing in a battery assembly plant in Shanghai. – AutomotiveNewsChina
