3D Map Maker for Self Driving Cars Named 2017 CES Innovation Award Honoree

Mapping and display technology for self-driving cars recognized for outstanding product design and engineering
(BUSINESS WIRE)–Civil Maps, a software provider for crowdsourcing continental scale 3D maps for fully autonomous machines, today announced that it has been named a 2017 Consumer Electronics Show (CES®) Innovation Award Honoree in the Vehicle Intelligence category for its localization and augmented reality (AR) maps technology. The award represents recognition from the Consumer Technology Association for outstanding design and engineering in innovative consumer technology products. Honorees are selected by a panel of consumer technology designers, engineers and members of the media.
Civil Maps’ localization and AR maps product translates the physical world into 3D map information for self-driving cars, enabling fully autonomous driving by precisely positioning and orienting cars in the real world. With Civil Maps’ localization technology, autonomous vehicles gain a greater understanding of the world around them while delivering a smoother ride for passengers. Civil Maps’ AR technology shows passengers in autonomous vehicles (AVs) a real-time visualization of how the vehicle understands its environment. The AR display combines a live video feed of the road with map data that enables the vehicle to recognize and interpret elements of its driving environment.
“We are honored to receive this award, which acknowledges the importance of consumer technology in the race to safe and reliable self-driving cars,” said Sravan Puttagunta, Chief Executive Officer of Civil Maps. “As we carry on our work with global automotive customers and partners, we will continue to focus on creating a safe, comfortable ride for consumers while keeping them informed of how autonomous vehicles see, comprehend and navigate the world.”
