Canadian Cities Commits to Sustainable Urban Mobility

The Regional Municipality of York’s approved an Ontario-wide plan for the demonstration and integration of electric buses.
SAINT-EUSTACHE, QC, March 27, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ – Following a decision by the City of Brampton almost two weeks ago, it was the Regional Municipality of York’s turn to approve an Ontario-wide plan for the demonstration and integration of electric buses. As an industrial partner of the Canadian Urban Transit Research and Innovation Consortium (CUTRIC), Nova Bus is very pleased with favourable position of this project regarding the interchangeability of electric buses and recharging solutions.
In order to carry out this ambitious project, which would roll out electric buses and aerial charging stations for electric vehicles throughout several Canadian cities, CUTRIC has set various resources in motion, including financial partners, research teams, technological tools and manufacturing stakeholders. After adopting the Pan-Ontario Electric Bus Demonstration and Integration Trial by their respective municipal councils, both Brampton and York will be the first to implement pilot projects.
“We’ve been extremely proud to collaborate with CUTRIC since last summer on this promising and forward-thinking project. Sustainable mobility is one of the most fundamental issues concerning the economic and sustainable development of cities, and I’m delighted that Brampton and York have chosen to be leaders in this area, setting an example for the rest of Canada,” said Ralph Acs, President of Nova Bus and Prevost.
Nova Bus is contributing to this project by supplying 100% electric buses that connect to charging stations via an open protocol known as OppCharge (www.oppcharge.org), a joint development between ABB, Siemens and Volvo Bus. Information regarding this project can be found on CUTRIC’s website at www.cutric-crituc.org.
