oBike is the Official Sustainable Urban Mobility Partner for KL SEA Games 2017

OBIKE, THE OFFICIAL GREEN INITIATIVE PARTNER OF THE 29th SEA GAMES AND 9th PARA GAMES 2017 TO PROVIDE FREE BICYCLE RIDES FOR THE NATION THROUGH BIKE SHARING SERVICE.
After a long-waited 16 years, Malaysia is once again become host to the well renowned SEA Games event in Kuala Lumpur. This time around, the KL2017 are making a sustainable impact going green, and hope every Malaysian contribute to achieve the green initiative goal.
KL SEA Games Green Initiative Partner
oBike, Malaysia’s first ever dock-less bicycle sharing service, which also just receive a huge 45M USD series B funding last week, is the appointed Kuala Lumpur 2017 Official Green Initiative Partner. oBike will be providing bicycles all around the Kuala Lumpur city and sports venues for athletes, visitors and commuters alike.
This green transport work as an alternative transport for the short distance, first and last mile’s travel, which is also in line with the KL2017 aim to encourage usage of public transport, promoting environmental awareness, lower carbon emission and sustainability practices to be shared and applied across different layers of society.
One Hour Free oBike Rides
The orange and grey bicycles can already be found at all selected SEA Games sports venues, shopping malls, and hotels that are linked to this momentous event. All oBike users will enjoy unlimited one hour of free oBike rides throughout the SEA Games event until 30th September 2017. Users simply have to register and put in a fully-refundable deposit to benefit from and enjoy the oBike service. All oBike rides during the SEA Games event until 30 September 2017 will be recorded with the amount of carbon emission saved, as part of the contribution to KL2017’s green initiative goal.
oBike in Malaysia
Since April 2017, oBike Malaysia has been carving out the cycling ecosystem by working closely with city councils such as DBKL, MBSJ, state government and etc, as well as transportation agencies, universities and commercial entities to connect different areas with their bike sharing service. Within 4 months of its launch in Malaysia, oBike has seen over 100,000 users sign up, and rolled out tens of thousands of bikes for their service covering areas such as Kuala Lumpur Sports City, Kuala Lumpur City Center, Subang Jaya, Sunway City, Petaling Jaya, and Cyberjaya.
Each bike is tracked by a smart-lock GPS system calculating the distance, calories and the total amount of carbon emission saved by using oBike. At the end of the event, we will be able to see just how much carbon emission has been saved by switching to bicycles.
oBike hope to provide a sustainable and collaborative form of transport supported by Malaysian, and with support of governments and local authorities it will Malaysia a cycling-friendly nation, espousing the clean green competition spirit of the 2017 SEA Games.
