Prasarana RapidKL Realigns Kuala Lumpur City Bus Route to Widen Connectivity urban mobility

Malaysian authorities are taking another step towards a long-term agenda of getting 80% of the nation’s urban population to live within 400 metres of a reliable land public transportation (LPT) service by year 2030.


Improved Bus Route Access 

Announced last Tuesday April 25, the RapidKL bus Route 402 was realigned Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Ipoh, Jalan Pahang, Bulatan Pahang and Jalan Tun Razak heading towards the Kuala Lumpur City Centre.

The reconfiguration is designed to cover four additional stops, including a new bus stop just 80 metres away from the Kuala Lumpur Health Clinic.

In a statement, the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) said the new bus route would provide the public with easier access to the clinic via public transport. It is working with the Kuala Lumpur City Hall to enhance the new bus stop as well as the pedestrian walkway to the clinic.


Bus-Rail Connectivity

The Commission added that the new bus route will also connect riders with the Titiwangsa LRT and Chow Kit monorail stations.

RapidKL bus service is part of the public transport network owned and managed by Prasarana Malaysia Berhad. The reconfiguration would likely encourage more people to use the Route 402 bus as it now connects them directly to Prasarana’s LRT and monorail network.


Why it matters

Going forward, this realignment may signal the beginning of more such reconfiguration on Prasarana’s part as it looks to promote public transport among urban dwellers.


While Prasarana is spearheading new transit-oriented developments (TOD) to achieve the 2030 goal, it would also likely to require realigning existing LPT network such as RapidKL buses to cover more existing residential areas and increase the number of homes with easy access to LPT.

These low-hanging fruits would contribute tremendously to get the nation moving towards the 2030 plan while new TOD projects, which would require some years to construct and complete, take shape.
