UITP Global Public Transport Summit – Montréal 2017
MONTRÉAL, May 18, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ – While the delegates to the 62nd Global Public Transport Summit of the International Association of Public Transport / Union internationale des transports publics (UITP) prepare to leave Montréal, the two host organizations, Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT) and Société de transport de Montréal (STM), have produced a very positive assessment of the event.
A Record Turnout
Over 2500 delegates of companies, governments and organizations related to transport from 84 countries came to Montréal to discuss best practices and meet the 330 companies from 30 countries present at the trade show, which covered an area of 25,000 m2. According to the UITP, this turnout is a record.
The quality of the content, the large number of conferences, the diversity of the technical visits, the scope of the information available at the trade show, the opportunity to test drive autonomous vehicles and, of course, the quality of Montréal hospitality and Montréal tourist attractions, are among the positive comments most often received.
Place au transport, the major public event created alongside the Summit by AMT and STM on Place Jean-Paul-Riopelle, to enable Montrealers to benefit from this world-class event, was also a clear success, due to the many festive activities available, combining historical content, active mobility, games, music and street food.
UITP Summit 2019
At the end of the Summit, the representatives of the two host organizations, Ms. Marieke Tremblay, Acting President and Chief Executive Officer of AMT, and Mr. Philippe Schnobb, Chair of the Board of Directors of STM, passed the torch to the representatives of the City of Stockholm, the host city of the next edition of the Summit in 2019.
The Global Public Transport Summit in brief
Known previously as the UITP World Congress & Exhibition, the Global Public Transport Summit was founded 130 years ago. Its concept has evolved over time to better reflect innovations from the public transport sector and the growing importance of sustainable transport in the industry. The event, which is held every two years, was held for the second time in Montréal, which hosted it the first time in 1977.
The UITP in brief
The International Association of Public Transport / Union internationale des transports publics (UITP) is the organization bringing together public transport authorities and operators. It represents an international network of 1400 members in 96 countries. The UITP has its headquarters in Brussels and fourteen regional and liaison offices around the world.
